Applying to St. John’s

At St. John’s Theological Seminary, we believe that the call to study theology is a sacred journey — one that deepens faith, strengthens the Church, and equips leaders to serve the world. Whether you are discerning a call to ordained ministry, preparing for lay leadership, or simply seeking to grow in your understanding of the Orthodox faith, our application process is designed to be clear, supportive, and spiritually enriching.

Who Can Apply

St. John’s welcomes applications from men and women of all ages and backgrounds. While our curriculum is firmly rooted in the Syriac Orthodox tradition, our seminary is open to all who wish to learn about the Orthodox faith. Our students include future clergy, lay leaders, educators, and faithful Christians who desire to deepen their spiritual knowledge and serve their communities more effectively.

Admission Requirements

Applicants are expected to demonstrate a commitment to the Christian faith, a sincere desire for theological formation, and the academic ability to engage with seminary-level studies. Depending on the program of interest (Diploma, Certificate, or Continuing Education), specific requirements may vary, but generally include:

  • A completed application form
  • A personal statement describing your faith journey and goals
  • Letters of recommendation (clergy and/or academic references)
  • Copies of academic transcripts

The Application Process

Our admissions process is intentionally straightforward and prayerful. Once your application is received, our admissions committee will review your materials, prayerfully discern your fit for the program, and communicate next steps. Accepted applicants will receive detailed information on registration, tuition, and orientation.

Important Dates

Application Deadline for Spring 2026:
November 15, 2025 – Applications must be submitted by this date to be considered for the Spring 2026 semester.

Final Admission Decisions:
All admissions will be finalized by December 15, 2025, giving applicants ample time to prepare for the upcoming semester.

Spring 2026 Semester Start:
Classes will begin on Tuesday, January 20, 2026. Orientation information and schedules will be shared with accepted students shortly after admission decisions are announced.

Early submission is encouraged to ensure sufficient time for review, acceptance, and course registration.
