Our application process is designed to be clear, comprehensive, and accessible, while maintaining the highest standards of academic and spiritual integrity.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following criteria to be considered for admission:
- Faith & Commitment – A sincere desire to study and understand the Orthodox faith and its traditions. SJTS welcomes applicants from all Christian backgrounds and those seeking to learn about the faith.
- Educational Background – A high school diploma or its equivalent is required for diploma or degree programs. Applicants seeking advanced studies should hold a relevant undergraduate degree or equivalent qualifications.
- Maturity & Character – Evidence of good moral character, integrity, and readiness to engage in rigorous theological study and spiritual formation.
- English Proficiency – As classes are taught in English, applicants should demonstrate the ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
Required Documents
All applicants must submit the following as part of their application:
- Completed Application Form – Available online through our admissions portal.
- CV (Curriculum Vitae)
- Personal Statement – Write an essay of no more than 500 words and minimum 250 words describing your faith journey, reasons for applying, and your vision for how theological education will shape your service.
- Academic Transcripts – Official transcripts from all previous educational institutions.
- Diplomas/Degrees – Notarized copy of diploma from previous educational institutions.
- SAT or ACT score reports (if available)
- GED score report (if one did not graduate high school, for candidates from USA only)
- Letters of Recommendation – Two letters, one preferably from a clergy member and another from an academic or professional reference.
- Proof of English Proficiency – IELTS, TOEFL or DUOLINGO for International Applicants ONLY.
- Government issued ID – Government issued ID, Drivers License or Passport
- Application Fee – A non-refundable processing fee submitted with the application.
Application Deadlines
St. John’s Theological Seminary follows a rolling admissions process, meaning that applications are reviewed as they are received, and admission decisions are communicated on an ongoing basis until all available spaces are filled.

Additional Requirements for Clergy Candidates
Applicants who are seeking ordination or formal preparation for ministry should submit a letter of recommendation from their bishop or diocesan authority confirming their status as a candidate for ministry.
